National stage of the International Olympiad for students of legal clinics

December 14, 2020

The national stage of the International Olympiad among students of legal clinics, organized by the Association of Legal Clinics of Kyrgyzstan in conjunction with the Center for the Development of Legal Clinics of Russia was held at the Ala-Too International University (Bishkek) on November 30, 2019.

The competition was attended by 27 students from 12 universities in Kyrgyzstan, including universities in Osh and Jalal-Abad regions.

The participants were divided into 9 teams of 3, each team comprised representatives of different universities. Therefore, national teams competed for winning the competition,  not representatives of individual universities. This principle of team formation contributes not only to leveling the competition among universities, but also helps the participants to learn teamwork and exchange knowledge.

The contest consisted of 3 stages, which were devoted to assessing one of the practical skills of a lawyer. During the contest the teams held primary and repeated interviewing of a legal clinic customer. Note that the legal clinic customers were the judges of the competition, who are acting lawyers.

As a result of the National stage of the competition, the winners were determined who will go to Moscow for the International Olympiad:

The first place was taken by a team consisting of Ermek Tishkinbaev (KRSU), Beksultan Asylbekov (JAGU), Perizat Kudaiberdiyeva (KNU).

The second place was taken by the team consisting of Tagaybaev Temirlan (KRSU), Marazykova Diana (APBIO) and Tishinina Ksenia (IUKR).

The third place was taken by the team consisting of Talaybekov Sabyr (KNU), Usenova Elmira (AIU), Kadyrbekova Alina (UNPK IUK).

The judges of the competition were the partner of 2B.LAW OFFICE Anton Gorodetsky, who was invited from Russia, the President of the Association of Legal Clinics of Kyrgyzstan, acting lawyers of Kyrgyzstan and curators of legal clinics.

The purpose of the Olympiad is to assess the level of practical skills among the students of legal clinics.
